Have to agree with mental v here. If the person is so smart, why is he keeping his money in the bank instead of investing it?.

It's called being general. I was trying to make a simple point. The bank could be any financial asset.

Besides, there are people who come by their wealth honestly, and many who come by it by cheating, lying, and stealing. The balance sheet is a number, a bottom line; it tells you nothing.

Sure it does. The bottom line is what matters most. If you have good results, isn't that proof of
a mind at work? It may be relative but compare it to a drunk good-for-nothing homeless bum.

Smartness is relative.

I am smart relatively to all that have lived, and died. I am even smart when sitting chatting to Einstein. I am smart enough to tell Newton where he went wrong. I am smart enough to help Hawking solve the mysteries of the Universe. I am smart enough to collaborate with CERN, and NASA. I am smart enough to add new insights into the brain function for a brain specialist.

To answer OP's question yes I think I am smart. However I don't mean just strict IQ. I have met many people with higher IQ's than mine that did not impress me much. Many of them had math skills and even understood some of the functional knowledge presented in philosophy texts. But most of them were victims of groupthinking, did not have a natural drive to understand their surroundings, and had not developed exceptional reasoning skills.

My definition of intelligence requires some kind of edge or drive to understand things personally in a way that is not accountable to others (but the intelligent path leads such a person to listen to opposing arguments and still learn from others).
