In keeping with Dan's request to compose posts offline first, some members might find a free, standalone BBCode editor helpful. I searched the forums and didn't see this posted, so here's the link to the only simple one I could find:

AHK BBCodeWriter 7.0.2

It was a suggestion rather than a request; I know the frustration of losing long posts.

Hmm, nice. That's better than Kevin's program, actually.

Thank you for the link.

Is there a way to increase the font size while you type?

Never mind. I figured it out.

Useful little tool.

Brokenhead this software seems to be quite old, is it updated often to the latest bb forum system? Are there any better free options or is this one the best?

In a functional sense, it's only missing the movie inserter ("Flash"), but I think it's easy enough to post a link to a video instead. Is there any other function that is missing, that you need, Mellissa? It might not look trendy, but that's not really worth the effort of updating in my opinion.

Another option is the Word2BBCode Word macro that I found and heavily modified. It allows you to compose posts with rich text, which is something that the editor posted above does not do. See this screenshot for an example of what the text looks like pre-conversion. Now, the macro only supports certain features, and will need at least one modification for these forums (see below), but it might be preferential to any other known tools.

Code: Select all

' This code assumes that [list=X] needs to be terminated by [/list=X],
' instead of [/list]. Making the change would be trivial.

We Have written a small freeware program to do just what the orginal poster was looking for. Check out Forum Formatter. The information is below, the download link will be posted as soon as we can post external links. Donations are appreciated for continued Development.

Have you ever been online, busily writing on one of your favorite message boards or online forums, and suddenly your browser crashed? You open it back up, only to discover that the precious post that you were busy writing disappeared along with it?

Forum Post Loss? Browser accidents? Accidental shutdown or Crashes? Forum formatter is designed to prevent you from losing your forum or message board posts in the event that your internet fails, your browser crashes or you accidently shut down a tab or page containing an important post.

Using this piece of software, you can write forum posts and messages while offline using a simple, straightforward WYSIWYG interface such as you will find on the internet itself. Posts can be written, saved and reopened later for further editing or posting. The interface contains most, if not all the tags common to most forums, with the exception of forum specific features. You can also preview your post in a simple viewer, and print if you so desire.
