Well, mystex, your dad should know that when many drivers are breaking the speed limit at the same time, the police officer is going to flag the slowest among them, since that driver is the easiest to corral.
Wise observation, Uncle Brokie.

Damn! The Pennsylvania bill says
On or before January 1, 2010, an owner of ammunition for use
in a regulated firearm that is not encoded by the manufacturer
in accordance with section 301 shall dispose of the ammunition.
The ammunition I currently own would become illegal.

I'm pretty sure this has no chance of passing in PA, though.
a tax of 5ç per round of encoded ammunition is imposed on the sale at retail or
use of encoded ammunition in this Commonwealth.
Five cents a round is not that insane for large rifle rounds that cost $12 for a box of 20, but what about rimfire (.22) rounds that I'm getting a box of 100 for $6? That's just crazy. It would encourage me to fire heavy rounds instead of light ones. Who does that benefit?

On the plus side, the bill makes no mention of reloading whatsoever. (An individual is not a "manufacturer" by its definition.)

NRA wrote:On January 12, the FBI released preliminary crime date for calendar year 2008, indicating that the nation's murder rate has fallen to a 43-year low, and the nation's total violent crime rate has fallen to a 35-year low. The data suggest that since violent crime peaked in 1991, the nation's murder rate has fallen 46 percent, and the nation's total violent crime rate has fallen 41 percent. The FBI will publish final data for 2008 later this year.

In the same time frame, federal, state and local gun control laws have been eliminated or made less restrictive, Americans have been buying over 4 million new guns every year, and the number of guns (including semi-automatic and other firearms that use standard magazines that hold more than 10 rounds) is at an all-time high. Less gun control has coincided with less crime. Pretty simple stuff.

Yeah, but it says, "Shall dispose of..." Talk about wiggle room.

I tend to think it will. Pennsylvania has large populations in a concentrated area. Stay tuned for some sensationalized drive-by shooting before this comes up for a vote in the state house assembly. It'll pass by a veto-proof majority. You got Ed Rendell for a "governor" (haha), he's another of Barack's pet poodles. Enough hysterical mothers will show up, maybe even trot out Mr. Brady himself to push it over the top...

Depends on the caliber, assault weapons and throwaway handguns are the killers of choice. Anyways, other than some lunatic postman .. the gangsters tend to be involved in the drug, human smuggling along the Mexican border. It's an almost civil war along the border, I've a buddy (border patrol agent) who's stationed in southern Texas. He watches (binoculars etc.) shootouts almost weekly.

We'll see how the senate version comes out :-(

Outside of Philadelphia, PA is actually pretty pro-gun. I looked around on the NRA site and the PAFOA site. The only reference I could find to it was in a post on the PAFOA forum ("Ammo encoding in PA"):
A friend received a response from Representative Keith McCall to a letter that he sent him asking him to vote against this bill. Here is his response.

“I share the concerns you have as a hunter and agree with you that the bill is both unnecessary and unwise. T he Pennsylvania bill (H.B.2228) was introduced last February and then referred to the House Judiciary Committee where it received no further consideration at all. When the last legislative session came to an end in November of 2008, the bill officially died. In the event any new bill with this purpose is introduced in 2009, I expect the same outcome. If such a bill ever does come to a vote, I would oppose it vehemently.”

This bill is dead. Thanks to everyone that wrote to their representatives.

Montana has it right on second Amendment

The resolution ended by stating sternly, "A collective rights holding in Heller would not only open the Pandora's box of unilaterally morphing contracts, it would also poise Montana to claim appropriate and historically entrenched remedies for contract violation."

Handgun-control measure fails in N.J. state senate

Handgun-control measure fails in N.J. state senate

Three South Jersey Democrats from rural areas bucked their party to vote against the plan, leaving it one vote shy of reaching Gov. Corzine, who has said he would sign the bill into law.

Democrats control the Senate by 23 to 17, normally giving them the power to advance bills without GOP support.

Pretty funny. You wouldn't know about the rural areas from the turnpike view, that's for sure. I've seen some grimy skies in my time, having lived around Philly and Wilmington, but nothing beats what you can sometimes see in Jersey. I once saw a great big orange-brown swath on the sky somewhere near Rahway. It wasn't coming out of a smokestack or any factory. It was just there, a few miles wide and many miles long. It was like New Jersey had fudgy undies on the sky.

They still have the Pine Barrens, I think. Although I tried to go camping there once and it was largely a swamp.

Tom Urbanski runs Ski's Firearms Training & Consulting. He also teaches the conceal carry classes.

He says locally the police layoffs [75 officers in the first round] are only fueling the fire, especially for senior citizens.

Americans and their guns

-snips-

"...Since the killing of John F. Kennedy in 1963, more Americans have
died by American gunfire than perished on foreign battlefields in the
whole of the 20th century."

Von Brunn and Roeder are a type, they're the type that kill presidents and
that's why the U.S. has to take things down a notch, as Obama has put it.
