coherent? i think not

Post by Rask0lnik0v » Fri Mar 03, 2006 6:42 am

i see that there is now discussion of porn, so i suppose pretty much anything goes these days, so a drunken stream of consciousness might not be too far out of the question, but i will try to formulate it to some degree.

not to crush you like a bug, but i will begin by explaining my definition of nietzsche's overman. my two favorite authors are nietzsche and dostoevsky, and i will compare Raskolnikov to the overman, Zarathustra. While Zarathustra comes from an ancient world, and Raskolnikov comes from a modern world (fairly modern Russia in the late 1800s), both of these characters seize their awareness of being "higher man" following a period of extreme isolation from the outside world, and we can compare these characters to The Messiah (if we are to bring religion into the picture), as even Jesus is found to take ideas of enlightenment from self imposed periods of extreme isolation. Zarathustra comes down from his mountain in the same way Raskolnikov breaks his isolation by committing His deed of transgression, that is the killing of the pawn broker, and this step is intended to bring Raskolnikov to the height of mankind, and it does so in that he commits the ultimate deed of transgression, and he is to feel no remorse in taking this step. Zarathustra is more akin to Jesus in that he acts non-violently, but he believes that his words alone will be enough to express the ideals of the overman, and in expressing the epitome of the overman, he also expresses his history, by revealing his theory of lineage, known as "the bridge to overman."

the one distinctive characteristic i am trying to point to here is that the overman, the higher man, and the messiah, are all said to be extremely contemplative beings. their isolation will inspire them, and it will purify them of the sins which man would force upon them, and he (highest man) would fall victim to mankind if he were not to isolate himself completely for a lengthy duration.

the philosophical question arises in my mind, if overman, higher man, or the messiah does not return to mankind to teach, then has he achieved anything? has he achieved everything, even before returning to mankind to be the teacher?

I think that teaching is a sign that you haven't achieved everything.
