The concept of an inherently existing self is an example of an incorrect and unjustified concept. But the concept of a non-inherently existing self - a self that exists purely by virtue of its appearance - is not mistaken. Rather than being laid over the top of reality, it is a part of reality itself.
There is a tendency these days for a great many people to abandon thinking altogether because they believe the authorities have somehow invalidated it.
