Interesting that the dictionary includes a definition of entropic that doesn’t require the qualifier of “closed system.” A nod to creationists?
“Again, some might say the maximal homogeneous distribution implied by entropy sounds rather orderly... :-)”
Yes, as I wrote earlier in this thread ...
“Curious minds seek to decode the disordering of chaos, which is called chaos to distinguish it from the recognizable and predictable (recognizable and predictable being defined in terms of mathematical sequencing).”
Curious minds also seek to understand the ordering from chaos, called evolution in order to distinguish it from devolution, and also to communicate with one another about the subject.
Science offers viewpoints that can lessen confusion, relative to that viewpoint. However, the biggie that science and evolutionists have yet to answer is, what is life? Aspects about life can be described, but that doesn’t answer the question. An individual can participate in a natural process that results in what is called life, but that is not creating life or answering the question.
The universe winds up to the big bang ... perhaps.
The universe winds down from the big bang ... Murphy’s Law.
You raise an interesting point. If a localized exception reversing the general trend of order to chaos is granted in the case of life proceeding from mud to mind, perhaps other exceptions should be recognized by the concepts of science.

But is it really an exception? The reversal only appears to happen when looking at a very specific open system. Nothing exists in isolation though and even with and around all organic life one can find many processes needed to sustain is that are a form of "order to chaos". Or in other words negentropy*, negative entropy, entropy that life outputs to decrease its own.Cahoot wrote: If a localized exception reversing the general trend of order to chaos is granted in the case of life proceeding from mud to mind, perhaps other exceptions should be recognized by the concepts of science.
So perhaps one could say the way entropy is "beaten" or at least delayed, is the ability of life to transfer some informational quality into another system before its processes wear out. The new open system then starts degrading according to entropy as well. The by-products are however highly entropic waste products, think about e.g. chopping down a forest to harvest its warmth.
Would there be other neg-entropic exceptions in the inorganic world? Dying stars, black holes? I'm not sure, perhaps it's still a matter of perspective: many processes out there could have short-lived negentropic states but it might be a rare thing in the greater schemes or hard to measure.
*) Suggestion as definition of negentropy: "stored mobilizable energy in a space-time structured system ("in-formation"?)"

It means that the vast majority, nay, the entirety established theories and ideologies have anomalies and instabilities that need to be addressed.

Amen to that brother. We also need to calculate Area 51 into the sequence. Intelligent Design my ass.prince wrote:The truth is in between. (Evolution and "God")

Re: Neverlution
Evolution can include many properties. It doesn't need to be a fixed argument. After a nuclear war there will be many malformed creatures around, and they will survive better under certain circumstances. It's possible that on a smaller scale the radiation around us is slowly altering us along side natural selection. So it is all mixed together. There are other factors involved, like gravity. Gravity can alter our shape, and should anyone destroy some of it we will change.
