Re: Is Nano-Technology being used in Humans Presently?

What is Nano-Technology? Is Nano-Technology being used in Humans Presently, if not will it ever be? What is Nano-Technology's prime function? Does Nano-Technology hold promise for a rewarding outcome? Will Nano-Technology be useful? Could Nano-Technology be used in animals? Nanotechnology only exis...

Re: Evolution/creation: the underlying dilemma; explaining order

Perhaps it might be worthwhile to invert the investigation: what, to you, would characterize phenomena that do not imply a creator? I can put it into words but I can't truly imagine what those words refer to: unstructured, lawless chaos. Do you believe an intelligent designer would also be capable ...

Re: Evolution/creation: the underlying dilemma; explaining order

Physicists have managed to siphon [the necessary preconditions for the big bang] down into quite simple laws - does the simplicity of these laws, and the simplicity of the primeval universe, even generate this "watchmaker" feeling? An alternative word choice in this context for "simp...

Re: On David Quinns' WOMAN EXPOSITION....

It seems very primitive cultures believe in magic and spirits, and they don't really have much to show for it because they did not centralize under the religions of war and money, to defend against the Judeo-Christian coalitions, [besides a lot of alcoholism, gambling, damaged self esteem resulting...

I stopped trying to be witty and interesting and truthful about such things long ago. They are just robotically doing their job so I tend to just say "Not bad, yourself?" They may be robotically doing their job, but it still could be a small chance to elevate the human condition even slig...

Re: I'm no Liar...Are you?

"Radical honesty" is for fools. And I don't really believe anyone can sustain it anyway. The radical honesty that I know, the one championed by Brad Blanton, isn't about telling the truth at all times and in all circumstances. It's more about analyzing the affects, the pros and the cons o...

Some musings... From a scientific perspective: If you locate this "intelligent designer" prior to the big bang, and have it only responsible for providing the necessary preconditions for the big bang, with no necessity for intervention by the designer in the universe after the big bang(eve...

And as far as people are concerned: if you’re mind is fixed on god you’re neither looking out to impress, nor the slightest bit interested in being impressed by anyone. If someone wants to talk to you, fair enough. If they don’t – what’s the problem? Don't you want to spread wisdom? I would've thou...

Re: On David Quinns' WOMAN EXPOSITION....

Nick, what if anything would you look for in a person's appearance, that would lead you to believe that they may be a decent thinker? Conversely what types of appearance would suggest to you that they are more likely not decent thinkers?

An explanation(of the order) of the universe, is, itself, part of the universe. How, fundamentally, is any progress made by explaining the universe with the universe?

Re: On David Quinns' WOMAN EXPOSITION....

I think it's quite likely that even most fair and high-minded philosophical people still constantly make judgments based on appearances. That goes without saying, but the difference lies in the ability of the philosopher to judge appearances in a clear rational manner, not based on what's fashionab...

Re: Evolution/creation: the underlying dilemma; explaining order

Do you agree that the order of the universe demands an explanation? Sometimes. If not, why not? Because of the order of the universe. If so, then what is your explanation for the degree to which the universe is ordered? My explanation for the degree to which the universe is ordered, of course.

The principle of beginninglessness entails that causes go back and back without limit; that there is no "first cause". Around these parts, causality is defined very broadly so that it covers a variety of phenomena, but here we're concerned with temporal causality: that variety of causalit...

One of the principles commonly taught around these parts is the beginninglessness [I know that neither this word nor even "beginningless" are in the dictionary but I just can't find words that are in the dictionary and that do the same job, so I'm going to use those words freely] I'm sorr...
