Re: Criminal Minds: A new type of crime drama?
And Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novels will be in vogue many centuries after he dies. Even his bad works are extremely enjoyable.

Re: The Problem With Women Today
broken, Shah, I read a lot of what Alex writes. Ah, you seem to be admitting that you can't always get through his kilometric ramblings. I just figured out what Alex's blogs are good for -- punishment. We could give criminals a choice between serving jail time and reading his ramblings. It could sol...

Re: Legalizing Suicide/Assisted Suicide
You totally missed what I said Sher. I wasn't talking about people with low consciousness; I was talking about people with no consciousness - in the medical, not just philosophical sense. Suffering could not be reduced because there wasn't any suffering there to reduce. It's hard to define what we ...

Re: Legalizing Suicide/Assisted Suicide
Eliza, Since there isn't a person in the body to know whether or not it is starving to death, trying to make death more comfortable is a moot point. What? You wouldn't mind someone suffering because their consciousness level is low? Do you feel the same way about the way we kill animals? You don't t...

Re: Legalizing Suicide/Assisted Suicide
Ryan,
If people with a lower consciousness level should be killed, then why don't we kill all animal species? Wouldn't it be the humane thing to do by your standard?

Re: Voluntary Human Extinction Movement
Ryan, I recommend that you both read the book "The female Brain" because what the female author suggests is that as the female brain ages, it becomes more mature, but also more independent - meaning that as menopause sets in, and the chances of becoming a mother are no longer there, the 'm...

Re: Voluntary Human Extinction Movement
Elizabeth, If people are having children younger, the grandparents would also be younger, therefore not too old to take care of the grandchildren. They are still raising their own progeny, hence the development of wisdom that works with that set of genes still matches. Parents would still be parents...

Re: Police State
But that is no reason to not prepare yourself for more likely situations. I believe in preparing myself, I just have a different plan than you do. A plan that requires me to be completely alert and ready for combat all the time is not going to work for me. It also involves as much loss of freedom a...

Re: Voluntary Human Extinction Movement
Carl, Does anyone else here agree with smugness as a general characteristic of ghetto dwellers? Only of those ghetto dwellers that are criminals or gang members. And quite a few of them are. They feel unbeatable, especially in places where the police doesn't have the disposition or desire to put a s...

Re: Police State
Dhodges, I would say the solution is the same as it ever was: get a gun, protect yourself. The government, the police, aren't going to do it. That's not good enough for me. What if I was taking a shower while someone breaks into my house, enters my bathroom and tries to kill me. Do you suppose I wil...

Yay!Anyway, I've had my fill of him. He is feeding from our attention, getting off on it, becoming more bloated by the minute, and I for one don't have any desire to continue the farce.

Re: Police State
Dhodges, despite the warnings of some that what worked in an economic boom in New York might not fly in a dirt-poor metropolis where violent crime is rampant and the police are notoriously corrupt. That's too bad. There is an economic boom in Panama, and the "me first" mentality would sure...

Re: Police State
I like to think there are alternatives and still time to institute them. Let me know if you ever come up with something good. Ever heard of the "broken glass" theory? It was applied in New York City decades ago, and they drastically reduced crime. We need to apply that to Panama, but it w...

Nevertheless you did argue for the Police State, which is exactly what the controllers want us to do. And many (maybe even you) would argue against tough law and order, which is exactly what the criminals want us to do. A year ago, a pre-presidential candidate in Panama was advocating "mano du...

Re: Police State
Wow. I've never actually heard anyone actually argue for a Police State before. This is surreal. Go back and read my original blog. I said I would not recommend a Police State. But I believe that is what many people want, without knowing it. United States may well be next. Keep the violent crime ra...

Re: Police State
Carl, So you list safety as the only pro. Right now, there is no greater reason for me to worry than my safety and that of my kids. You underestimate the value of safety. Even while admitting the threat to even greater crime by the State. Greater? No way. My family was attacked by the State (as you ...

Re: Police State
Pros: Crime (from low class criminals) was very much under control. Kidnappings and bank robberies were unheard of. We could walk around the city, day or night, without fearing for our lives. We did not need to live totally surrounded by iron bars. The police were taken seriously. Needless to say, n...

I agree, they need to make it illegal first.
What about toy guns? Those could get you shot at by the police, if you draw them. They aren't going to take the risk (of the gun being real and made to look like a toy).
