There are many different types/forms of meditation. Many forms are bogus. If the guy who is the subject of this thread meditated on "happy thoughts" then yes his form of meditation is bogus and is comparable to masturbating or drug use. But I am pretty sure that he is a scholar of Tibetan ...

I agree with you Elizabeth, but honestly I am not talking about happiness or the attainment thereof, if you knew me personally you would know that it would be comical to think of me in that light. I kind of assumed that most philosophically minded people (the kind of people that post on this forum i...

PS My path has nothing to do with obtaining "happiness" and neither does the man in the article that inspired this thread. Happiness is just the marketing ploy just as Christianity was a marketing ploy for Martin Luther King.

It's funny you mentioned Hitler (and it’s rare that Hitler isn’t mentioned in philosophical discourse). I was thinking the same thing. Yes Hitler did know his role and accomplished mass destruction in a monumental way. Hitler was a smart man and had strategic reasons for doing what he did and he...

Well Nick. It’s easy enough to say that you are far superior but much more difficult to validate it. With that I move my pawn from D2 to D4. It’s your move (whomever wants to play).

Matt: "Believe me, I have every confidence in the world that he's superior to me at meditating and making himself happy, but happiness has nothing to do with wisdom. Without wisdom all you can do is put off suffering. The only way you can truly eliminate it is to become perfectly wise." Ye...

Uh-Oh! Semiotic analysis of the word "balance" leads to the attachment of vague descriptors to a multifaceted concept for our selfish advancement in the endless convoluted chess game of philosophy discourse. Hmm... Is the word balance to blame? Or do we do the same thing with the word &quo...

A lie is not a rejection of the truth but a conscious misleading of the truth. Even delusion serves a purpose—otherwise it wouldn’t exist. Delusion is a prominent aspect of human consciousness. Many people rely on delusion for motivation and sometimes those delusions are proven to be a reality. ...

Sue your stilted lecture is an empty sentiment. You haven't substantiated any of your arguments and your philosophy is non-existent, do you just expect me to believe you about the path to truth without any sort of logic behind your incredibly flagrant viewpoints? Your sermon was reminiscent of a sou...

Footnote: Galileo lied for the continuation of truth (by choosing life he could continue writing). If Martin Luther King had not lied for the strategic continuation of truth (although he was a reverend he was not a Christian) then he wouldn’t of made the impact that he made. http://www.jesus-is-lo...

Dear @#$$%:

I like you... I once wrote a song and it goes like this... You see this face, smiling at you why don't you f*ck it, ahh f*ck my face!

I'm didn't quote that song to insult you. I quoted it because I felt like sharing something personal with you.

An article like this does not help someone overcome sexual delusion. This article is replacing one delusion for another. Men searching for truth fear temptation and therefore blame the source (women) but I think that if they saw the reality behind the temptation (as in a valuable human being as oppo...

Come on Sue, who advocates a life of mediocrity? Really? Buddha’s “The Middle Way” is far from middling. Lies will always be present, no matter how hard you strive for truth – that is the way of the world (existence itself is a lie). Sometimes lies even have value, strategically or otherwise...

Yeah who cares about Wu Bong. The only reason I quoted him was because I wanted to find something about mixing hot water and cold water then drinking it (which I still can’t figure out). But Thomas Cleary (who I consider the greatest English language scholar of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confuscism) wr...

All of the environmental problems result in death, sickness, hunger. This is only correct. This is part of the balance equation. This is...

Oh I think I might be able to help with Sam Harris as well. I helped Brian Flemming in the past (He made a documentary called The God Who Wasn't There) and he interviewed Robert Price, Sam Harris, Richard Carrier, Earl Doherty, and The Raving Atheist. I'm sure he knows how to get in touch with them.

I'm sorry I said, "hot and warm" but I meant hot and cold. I was thinking of that passage in the bible "...because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." What a curious statement that is. But I have to admit I like it for some reason.
