Re: Women, Freedom, Entrapment, Strategy

Re: Women, Freedom, Entrapment, Strategy

Pye writes : But Alex, this is exactly the crust I'm talking about - crust built up around a valuable thing and assumed withheld from others, these 'untouchable' fruits. Re: Women, Freedom, Entrapment, Strategy

Quite okay. I don't have a problem with that word as I define it! But your use of it follows your own definitions, and the background of them. I am fairly certain that I 'resist' your use of the term and qualify my own. So, should I restate what I mean by paternalism?

Pye: I am sure there is an elitism that is that and does that. But there is also an elitism that knows, sees, holds and expresses things that few manage to touch. From Franz Kafka's story An Old Manuscript : "Speech with the nomads is impossible. They do not know our language; indeed they hardly have a language of their own. They communicate with each other much as jackdaws do. A screeching of jackdaws is always in our ears. Our way of living and our ins...

Hello Laird. As I have recently declared, I am right on the verge of giving up my mind and becoming witless. It is surprisingly easy once you get into the hang of it, but it does help to have good teachers too. And I've got two of the best who will be helping me squeeze through the eye of the needle...

Re: Women, Freedom, Entrapment, Strategy

This is the point, Diebert, where you take a step away from 'genuine communication' and a class of conversation which might be fruitful and at least interesting, and go in another direction. The statements you are making, I see now, are less about me and more about yourself. I hadn't seen that befor...

Sphere70, I have not read Delillo but I did find a PDF with a rather hard to read version of White Noise. I'll have to look into it. I found these excerpts on some blogs which I liked, though it is hard to grasp the novelistic context: "There's a theory about déjà vu." "I don't want t...

Allow me to clarify...and to press a point...dramatically, for effect. My endeavor pretty much has to do with discovering and rediscovering genuine meanings. If I *fight* against those ghost-demons that appear in my mental space when I read some of the ugliness that is tossed up on these pages---by ...
