Re: Beyond God and Evil

L: You’re carrying on about some non-omnipotent, omnibenevolent God, and I’m the one with preconceived ideas? Biko: Right - I didn't get my ideas served to me on a platter full of atheism. I was an agnostic to start with. L: And that proves what, given the below definition? It doesn't prove anythin...

Re: Beyond God and Evil

Well, yes. I’ve always found arse rather tempting in that way. Yes, well, I'm sure that you'd find my arse particularly tempting, if you ever saw it, which you just might have... You’re carrying on about some non-omnipotent, omnibenevolent God, and I’m the one with preconceived ideas? Right - I did...

Re: Mr and Mrs Topsy Turvy

earnest: I doubt it. He made me in His image, remember? What cuts my heart cuts His heart too. Leyla: No, dear. You made him in yours. Bring on that condescension, honey buns, bring it on! Man did not proceed from God---God proceeded from man. Ever noticed how slippery "He" is? Slipperier...

Re: Beyond God and Evil

Dang, I still haven't started work for the day yet... Listen to what you are saying here, Ernie. "Why, if God were a right chap, he would do away with all this war nonsense. After all, any rational omnipotent man wouldn't have any of it." Ernie, you are judging God. Nah, brokemeister, I'm ...

Re: Beyond God and Evil

One quick little post before I start work for the day. :-) You think that God could create us at the endpoint of the journey, but that is a wishful supposition not based on knowledge. It is based on the hypothesis that God is omnipotent, that He can do all things that are possible, and that the end ...

Re: Beyond God and Evil

earnest: And in turn I generally find the removal of culpability from God to humans due to "the gift of free will" to be rationally suspect, not to mention that the idea that God fails to prevent immense suffering when He could is dubious at best (and I'm being very kind to you in choosin...

Yes, I also thought that it was an excellent article when I read it back in September last year, courtesy Jamesh: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3415&p=53687.

Re: Beyond God and Evil

I think that the words used, omnipotent, omniscient, etc. are often used in a magical way, not a realistic way. God is omnipotent because God is within everything. But I do not suppose that God can do various impossible things by waving his magical wand. So perhaps a sensible definition of omnipote...

Re: Beyond God and Evil

Yes, I think most people would agree, which is why I pointed out previously how hard it is to take that "solution" seriously in the face of all the suffering that actually occurs. Right, you wrote "In the face of things like genocide, this idea offends just about every empathetic and...

Re: Beyond God and Evil

By the way, I just wanted to add that omniscience really comes along for the ride with omnipotence. There's no need to specify it as an extra power. If a being is all-powerful, then that being possesses the power to know everything (omniscience).

Re: Beyond God and Evil

First of all, there can't be a "most" perfect anything, because perfection isn't comparative. Something is either perfect or it is not. Yes, fair enough, I phrased that poorly. Why is it so difficult to understand that in a world of space and time, there can be no such thing as perfection...

Re: Beyond God and Evil

The only logically consistent way to maintain all three attributes (omnipotence, omniscience, always-doing-good) at once is to say that the way things actually turn out is the best possible way that they could have turned out. That's almost a solution to the problem, but not quite. To say that a st...

Laird, do you think that QRS understand your abiding Enlightenment, now that you have banished all delusions and emotion forever?

I know that the most advanced of all teachings is that of emptiness. I also know that Woman is man's ultimate failing. Would it be true to say that Woman is Empty?

Re: The evolution of QRS into QRST

Pardon me for interrupting, but I am curious to know what set of causes led to your attainment of the Highest Level? Can any man replicate them and if so, would such a man be likewise guaranteed entry into the Highest of Highs?

Re: The evolution of QRS into QRST

I will pose the first question, but first let me congratulate you on your achievement. Some people seem to be intrigued and even delighted by the apparent schism between the QRS that you referred to in your OP and as played out in the thread Thanks to those I visited in the US and Canada . Do you th...
