Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

Obviously my notion of it is my interpretation of what I consider the saner aspects of Hindu/Buddhist philosophy in relation to that specific idea. My understanding is that you take the Buddhist understanding in its 'driest' sense---a strict, this-world 'materialism'. What is here is 'what is' and ...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

The original novel from which the title is taken is actually a protest novel (of sorts) of hubristic American attitudes that got us into a whole mess of trouble. The Ugly American. The ugly American of the novel is actually an admirable figure.

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

try condensing a long deep intellectual thought
Nah. Best to start with short, shallow, vain and pseudo-intellectual henids!
So make it interesting.
That's often to write for the lowest common denominator!

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

First, one must take into account the deep psychic anxiety, the extraordinary prevalence of neurosis, which makes our age unique. The typical modern has the look of the hunted. He senses that we have lost our grip upon reality. This, in turn, produced disintegration, and disintegration leaves impos...

The best I could come up with on the spur of the moment:

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

I just want to get to the point. Sometimes you can't get to the point if you don't understand at least some part of how one has gotten to a point-to-be-made. All of our ideas have a genesis, a causal history to put it in GF terms. I think there are many different modalities through which to live li...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

Fucking, duh. One very basic rule---here but really in any context---never give over to another the complete authority to define you. But specifically, here, *definitions* of others, especially when two persons have become antagonistic, are used as weapons or as a means to increase the already-pres...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

Kunga, Americans are deeply 'anti-intellectual' and since the general American attitude has taken over the whole world it is not surprising that there is a general anti-intellectual attitude prevalent among many people. There is also the aspect of illiteracy: no interest in 'our own traditions' and ...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

Which ideas did me try and communicate ae? Besides that my name is John, you write a lot of bullshit, and that Dan shouldn't waste his time repeating himself to you. To me view it all came out pretty clearly. Hmmmm. An enlightened teenage Aussie Rasta! You could bring The Dharma to the gurgling mas...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

Diebert: Another strategy in The Game: make an assertion that the very structure of a person's ideas is invalid and not to be taken seriously. It does not matter if it is true or not, the *declaration* is what matters. It is then shared with others as in this case expressed with third person distanc...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

Also Alex, just write less. Hearing me? Write less so you stop bullshitting yourself. And Dan! Why do you persist on talking to Pincho/Alex or anyone who you know is the same after repetition? If it really is because you care that little, congratulations, you really are outdoing me and I need a cou...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

What does fascinate me in all this is the question about samsara and perdition. Posing it, highlighting it, bringing it to the foreground, is a good idea and produces interesting exchange of views. It is indeed the most important question one can ask. I understand full well that you regard 'the wor...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

This is how The Game begins with Diebert. First, a foray into a false argument. That I did not write something clearly when it was certainly clear enough, and contained references to my request to Dan for his simple request to stop posting ('gentleman's agreement') if he were to decide thus, rather ...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

[A comment about calling SeekerofWisdom 'John'. His name came up in other posts by other people and I have referred to him as 'John' for at least 6 months. Whatever anonymity people desire for themselves is respected by me. I understood his name as being known to everyone on the forum. And I assumed...

Emotionally I guess it would be equal to everyone and thing you know and love being murdered or disappearing mysteriously. Man you aren't joking when it comes to drinking the poison! Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

I offered that to Dan, not to you, Diebert. In any forum there is administration and any administrator does have the right to guide that space as he sees fit. And I have said many times that I would stop posting if Dan (or David or Kevin) thought it best---'for the forum'. But I don't offer you that...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

Alex is like a toddler in a sandpit with an endless array of toys to play with. Pity he doesn't notice in all that frenzied, boyish play that the sand is sinking beneath him. But you would say this in regard to everyone in the whole world, right? This is what you mean by being stuck in Samsara, isn...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

The 'guiding theory' I work with, in regard to the 'heavies' here, is that it doesn't ultimately really have to do with the ideas, since the structure of ideas really allows for no argument, but something in the *force of personality* of the ones who claim this space. All I can say and will say abou...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

A couple of things. One is an interesting fact. Tell me what you think. Genius Forum, at a basic level, lives by and in a sense thrives on 'insult'. My theory is that when there exists no means to value persons, and when it is only about 'ideas', or gaming with ideas, or fronting, or god-knows-what,...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

Why thank you, Dan. It is doubtful that you understand much of what I say but I do appreciate the thought. If I am not mistaken you echo largely the opinion that Diebert outlined, above. A 'Pincho-like neurosis', et cetera, et cetera.

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

Coming close to God brings catastrophe. Everyone whose life does not bring relative catastrophe has never even once turned as a single individual to God; it is just as impossible as it is to touch the conductors of a generator without getting a shock. This all depends on 'what sort of God one is de...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

By 'otherworldliness', then---in the sense in which the term, I suggest, is an indispensable one for distinguishing the primary antithesis in philosophical or religious tendencies---I mean the belief that both the genuinely 'real' and the truly good are radically antithetic in their essential chara...

Re: The Metaphysical Dream of the World

We must reject, or certainly deeply question and challenge, the barbarian understanding and use of both 'logic' and 'reason' as well as their declarations about ratiocination. And we must equally scrutinize in painful detail their barbaric and tendentious conclusions, admonitions, ethical pronounce...
