Re: Damaged Goods.

There's Neuroplasticity and then there's another interesting aspect of the brain called, Neurogenesis. I'm not to sure how these are related, but the former seems to create new neurons, while the latter works with what is available, creating more connections between existing neurons. I'm sure they b...

Re: Damaged Goods.

Thanks Ryan, it sounds very interesting and promising... http://www.normandoidge.com/excerpt.pdf ...It does not seem to last (for ex. concentration - I have days where this seems to be topnotch, then others where I'll totally lose this capability and feel uncontrolled. I tried to figure out the cata...

Damaged Goods.

I suspect I have brain damage, which has resulted from several, if not one, of these factors: Traumatic Brain Injury, the use of drugs (mostly natural ones, such as Datura), and other (possibly mental disorder). I will be going through various medical evaluations, which are coming up in a few months...

Re: Christianity

The conceptual leap from many to one is huge, though. One God is an entirely different thing than many. The Christian God has three parts, or is made up of three parts. I think this is called the Holy Trinity: The father, the son and the Holy spirit. The sign of the cross - before and after a praye...

Re: Christianity

My argument is that the Christian conception of God is only similar in name to the Greco-Roman conception of gods. Monotheism is so far removed from polytheism that there is no identity between the two. Could you be anymore complex? Monotheism is so far removed from polytheism that there is no iden...

Re: Christianity

I'm not certain that the Christian belief system is based on a God. It most certainly is. Rather, it is based on the words and writings of a few philosophic individuals, many of whom were reacting to the superstitions at the time, and who were trying to invent a saner religion based on centuries of...

Re: Christianity

Contradictions state two things that cannot both be true simultaneously. A fallacy is a claim that appears to add something to a debate, but when analyzed carefully shows that it is irrelevant and proves nothing (for instance, the number of people who believe an argument is used as evidence that it...

Re: Why truth/non-delusion?

Thinkers that break away from the norm are more valuable to humanity precisely because they learn how to think for themselves, rather than merely comparing themselves, and imitating what everyone else is doing. At the most rudimentary level, a ‘normal’ person continually says yes to life, where...

Re: Christianity

Trevor, 1ntel, it's good to see you have moved to the forum-at-large. Heh, it's about time I showed some balls! In Europe and America, it is fashionable for intellectuals and pseudo-intellectuals to attack Christianity. Me: Why? Perhaps they feel threatened. Then I guess they're belief system is a l...

Re: Christianity

In Europe and America, it is fashionable for intellectuals and pseudo-intellectuals to attack Christianity. Why? (From my time at university, I noticed that it was often Fine Arts and Arts students -- not Science students -- who were the most adamant despisers of religion.) Why do you think that is...

Didn't they first try this out on house pets. It's currently going on, but I've heard they were having problems, where animals would start to develop cancer because of it.

Re: Why truth/non-delusion?

Normal' people are mediocre because they accept life at face value. Are you trying hard not to be mediocre, by not accepting life at "face value". Notice how I'm asking, instead of simply deluding myself into believing I know what's going on with another. They don’t realize that the human conditi...

What’s your alternative? Living like everyone else? Maybe get a wife to please, and resort to violence to solve the world’s problems, those are the easy roads, they have been done a million times before, and the world is still disorder That's normal. There are people who are incapable of being ...

Re: Will Earth need a policy like China's 1 child policy?

I think there has to be some sort of restriction eventually. It's obvious that even if a change in politics and therefore resource management means we could sustain a greater population than we now have, it can't continue to rise endlessly. I'm not sure how such a restriction would work, however. M...
