Re: Query on 'A=A'

I see I have laughed at Laird's banana peels because I have long been oppressed by powerful reasoning. Presidents, sages, mothers-in-law, all are targets for banana peels and I have profited from learning how small I have been. I see also I have turned to rationalization to hide my foibles from myse...

Re: Query on 'A=A'

Dan,

While you are certainly knowledgeable - even an expert - on what you think you have said, you cannot dictate how others receive you, and moreso when you are being interpreted by another.

Re: Query on 'A=A'

Sher's point is a good one. Not all satires 'ridicule' and there has been no justification of 'malice'. ... QRS are public figures - as is everyone who writes on a message board - and they should be able to take criticism whether or not it is given humourously.

Re: Query on 'A=A'

I'm sure some people appreciated it, given there's no accounting for vapidity. Satire isn't an argument, Laird; it's not even close to an argument (well, actually, it could be if written that way, but yours wasn't). Those writings simply had no point despite being mildly entertaining. Some people f...

Re: Donation button

Okeydokes, Sher. You'll need to provide links to those many threads you've read over the years and when you do we'll have something to discuss other than 'unfounded accusations'. Be sure to include links to the Genius Forum threads to which I was supposedly reacting.

Please argue fairly.

Re: Query on 'A=A'

This is similar to the brick enquiry in Donation button and I'm not going to take on this burden either. I'll state that I think Laird's is a fine piece of writing David's opinion notwithstanding but I will leave defense of its arguments to its author. It hits its targets or it doesn't and forgive m...

Re: Query on 'A=A'

.............. Dan bumped the thread. Hey, Laird - seems too informal since elsewhere I acknowledged Laird Totality as my new spiritual master. I did enjoy that work. I've not had much to do and which is fine. Let others argue and I'll read. It's odd 'being here'. First thing coming to mind was 'fox...

A few words of the description immediately implied that singular event - singular in so many memories although other monks immolated themselves as protests afterward. Coming in a tad late. See also Meditating on War and Guilt, Zen Says It's Sorry , and which includes, '... it's hard to find a scholar of authority who takes issue with the basic findings of "Zen at War" ...' D. T. Suzuki 'attained his satori' in the 1920's. What satori was that? I remembe...

Re: Donation button

I thought I had answered in kind; there would have been a friendly note if I had gotten one. If you sensed a whining tone in my post, you certainly misinterpreted it. Well that's good to know, Sher. I have no idea why I would have sensed a whining tone or why you felt compelled to note the possibil...

Re: Donation button

Sher,

I thought I had answered in kind; there would have been a friendly note if I had gotten one. It will wait as long as you like although I would certainly not object if it goes unanswered. I have enough to do writing interesting descriptions of bricks.

Re: Donation button

What is the significance of the brick, then? - The brick, and a very fine nicely coloured substantial brick it is, represents the author's view that Dan Rowden is the foundation on which the greater edifice of QRS is sustained. That is the majority view. The minority view is too obscene to repeat. ...

Unless David is pointing to some past private history between the two of you that I am not aware of. ... Welcome any ways, if I may say so. Thanks for the welcome, Sapius . Ah yes, the great debate. I must say you're sounding pretty civil, given our history together. Would you mind if we decided to use donated money to generate publicity for Otto Weininger's work? - Why David , I was sure you would all disavow Weininger after the debate. I'm thoroughly shocked. ... It...

My two cents: I'm pretty comfortable with the idea. If people felt inclined to contribute it might offset the costs of domains for the Reasoning Show and potentially Poison. ... Query on 'A=A'

Is there a precise statement available on what 'Wisdom' mean by A=A ? It's mentioned frequently here but I would hate to go through a large number of posts if something more easily accessed is available. I find it in Sex and Character and naturally I wonder if Wisdom means with it what old dead Otto...
