Re: The irony of love and indifference (recovered)

If you "desire" something, you think it will make your life better. A wise person, by definition, desires only to live according to truth. Truth is first and foremost the guiding force behind the wise person's life choices. But a wise person knows that truth will not make their life bette...

Re: Objective reality or not?

So an interesting question... Couldn't objective reality be exactly how we see it? What we see is only an aspect of 'so called' objective reality, and not an explanation for it Yes I realize that what we see is an aspect of objective reality. Is it not possible that it is the only aspect? Ie, there...

Re: Objective reality or not?

So an interesting question... Couldn't objective reality be exactly how we see it? (as in... there "is" no more, not there "appears" no more) This would only make sense if what we perceived could explain our perception and consciousness. In this case materialism and idealism woul...

Looks from that page as though anything circular with patterns inside it is called the "incomplete flower". It is no surprise that it pops up all over the world. In fact, I have a carpet with the incomplete flower on it. I dare not ponder it though or the aliens will abduct me to protect t...

Why seek/spread truth?

I try not to be fatalist here. Why make the decision to try to spread truth to other people though? If they want it they will find it. Perhaps you should just help those who come knocking? Is there any real value to spreading truth? Particularly something from the letters pdf from Kevin: My hatred f...

Re: Objective reality or not?

It would seem that we can only discuss how we should use the term 'hidden void'. There is nothing else to say. You are right. Talking about "objective" whatever on this level is really just creating conceptual models. I think they are useful for understanding, we just have to recognize th...

Re: Objective reality or not?

It depends on what you mean when you say 'it doesn't exist'. When I say it doesn't exist, I'm merely saying that it is not capable of appearing, or emerging. I'm not saying that it is 'nothing'. On the contrary, it is somehow responsible for our sense of existing. Like David said, "it's wholly...

Re: Objective reality or not?

The etymological meaning of 'exist' is: to emerge, to appear. The hidden void doesn't emerge or appear, so it doesn't exist. So I think your question is: "How do we know the 'hidden void' is causing our perceptions of appearances and emergences? My question to you is, "Why or how could it...

Re: Objective reality or not?

I have thought... existence requires an observer. However, how do we know the observer exists? Does the observer exist if we don't observe it? No. Thus we have arrived at the "nothing exists" phase. This seems somewhat at odds with my consciousness and the reality I created, both which see...

I don't think truth or honesty is objectively good. You subjectively value them at this point in life.

How can anything be good or bad when everything is perfect?

Re: Objective reality or not?

I believe I have figured this out.

The world we see is contingent upon our consciousness and thus not real. Ultimate Reality is not contingent and is real... whatever it is.

Re: Dropping out

Thanks for the insight.

I think complete isolation from society would be more inspiring and useful at least for me personally. However survival would become more difficult and time consuming and thus thinking time would suffer.

Dropping out

Of society I mean. I saw Kevin mentioned it briefly in a bio page and David in one of the podcasts. Nietzsche is pushing it too, and of course many other people have in the past. Who else on here has tried it? Is it the way to go?! There seems to be 2 options... just living in poverty amongst societ...

Re: Objective reality or not?

I'm thinking that what you guys mean is that an objective reality (as in the "hidden void") does most likely "exist" (cannot be validated) though the term "exist" is wholly misused/meaningless in this application (outside our construction). But conceptually speaking....

The scenario was given of you sitting down beside a large sum of money. If someone grabbed the money and you had an attachment to it you would be sad or angry. However if you had no attachment you would be indifferent to its vanishing. So let me ask you... if you had something vital to the survival ...

This is my current understanding of this... Objective reality: - Existence != appearance. - Consciousness created by the "real version" of what we perceive to be a our brain. - Other human beings within my construction of consciousness who appear to be conscious themselves could actually b...

Some searching of google will show that many people report similar problems when upgrading this phpbb version of losing posts and/or members. There is a lack of solutions though. The browser crashing during whatever shouldn't cause the post tables to be deleted from the database.
