Re: Why modern religion makes no f**king sense!
It's not only religion in modernity that suffers from this problem. As Diebert said one could look to the media for another example, as stories are being sold rather than information. Maybe even ponies can be a modern religion for some, or religion were the ponies from the past.

Re: Why modern religion makes no f**king sense!
Religions goes back to a time before there were written language and regular societies where oral traditions acted as a bridge between generations. Society and writing can place man in a more direct relation with its ancestry, from where man acquires history. Advances in the social life, sciences, e...

Re: Kevin Solway's The Feminine Mind - the bane of Gamergate
In mating and other activities it does not matter if the resources comes from knowledge or the use of force, for example. Resources can be obtained and managed rationaly or irrationaly. The monopolization of resources will increase someones chances of sucess in mating and reproduction, to the point ...

Re: Kevin Solway's The Feminine Mind - the bane of Gamergate
I would say that most 'production' is a form of reproduction, not production, taking something that exists and increasing its avaliability, like making a house for example. Over time the value of 'production' diminishes by the amount of production. If you have a greater supply of houses than before ...

Re: Near Death Experiences
I've never had a near death experice for what I know. But the almost, I've almost drowned once when I was a kiddo, it was a bit surreal in the sense of "Is this really happening?", I remember seeing like part of the page of a comic book where the personage of death was part of it. For a ki...

Re: Proof Of Reimanns Hypothesis
I would recommend arxiv.org. The wikipedia says that "While the arXiv does contain some dubious e-prints, such as those claiming to refute famous theorems or proving famous conjectures such as Fermat's last theorem using only high-school mathematics, they are "surprisingly rare".[15] ...

Re: If you could eliminate one thing from life what would it
Trick question - you can't eliminate anything without eliminating it all. If anything I would challenge this assertion. You can 'eliminate' everything except for things that have inherent existence. Every relative existence can be eliminated, and it is more certain that it will. I can appreciate th...

Haha, I like this answer, it's both intelligent and idiot at the same time.GreatandWiseTrixie wrote:The answer to an advanced and intelligent culture, is very simple.
Stop being idiots.
I like how it puts stopping idiocy as an achievable goal that doesn't even requires much effort. That may as well be very true.

Re: The kinds of truth
Taking as an example the earth being at the center of the universe, saying that or saying it is true could mean that: It is an apparent truth, and that would just change with appearances. That it is a natural truth, this one would change only if the earth were at the center of the universe and moved...

Re: Kevin Solway's The Feminine Mind - the bane of Gamergate
I would relate progress with the openess and accessibility of knowledge and the material resources needed for the production and dissemination of knowledge and goods. The monopolization of knowledge or material resources restricts the accessibility and dissemination, and works contrary to progress. ...

I know it's hearsay, but so is the theory of the atom. I mean, have you actually ever SEEN an atom in an electron microscope? Same with string theory and the speed of light time dilation. Have you ever actually experienced time dilation first hand? Can we be sure it's not just a hearsay hoax? You s...

Re: The kinds of truth
Taking the other way around, the three kinds would be absolute. Truths - independent of thought/or facts, only about thoughts/or facts, and the interrelation of thoughts/or facts. Principles would be just kinds of kinds. While the law of gravity may be irrevocable, we use language to communicate it....

The second kind of truth are the truths of appearances, independent of natural facts. The third kind of truth is the mixture of the first two kinds. Like the truths of language and con...

It's also a skill. If the goal was to be not moving for example, it may be a skill that may help in the path to enlightenment, but also may have nothing to do with it. Or as in action-without-action, taking either one to be absolute would be missing the point that they are also relative. Maybe a bet...

I may be in love with you trixie, if you're not a middle aged man. Erm...lol? Society and biology puts more burden on women in the process of mating and reproduction. In a way that those are activities that hinder progress at large.

Re: Kevin Solway's The Feminine Mind - the bane of Gamergate
After a quick glance of gamergate at wikipedia, I would summarize it as "an angry mob being accused of misogyny". And the contribution of Kevin Solway, as per video, to gamergate lies in his understanding that the mind is divided into consciousness and unconsciousness and associating it wi...

lolwut you are joking right (state (waterliquidfrozen) is determined by the rate a substance vibrates, it's frequency) Well light is an electromagnetic wave and can be put in a continuum, you can go from red < yellow, and it can be measured in Hz. But in the case of water, while its vibration varie...

Re: Enlightenment and such
Sadness is the same has happiness. Hate is the same as love. Fear is the opposite of love, but I'm not sure what the opposite of sadness is, maybe apathy? I guess the problem is just that emotions are transient and not guaranteed. While truth can bring pleasure or pain either way it's regarded to b...
