Re: MAOA Gene, Childhood Trauma and Psychopathy

Punitive measures only go so far, they don't always work, especially when they are carried out with vengeance, then they are seen as retribution rather than consequence. I lean toward the Consequentialist theory of punishment. In general consequentialism holds that the "moral rightness" o...

Re: MAOA Gene, Childhood Trauma and Psychopathy

It's my understanding that most people, whether they believe in free-will or not, believe in everyone being held responsible for their choices. Not necessarily "freely willed" choices, but choices just the same. I agree with this. It's a consequence of being conscious. Reality holds us to ...

Re: MAOA Gene, Childhood Trauma and Psychopathy

A very interesting TEDTalk with Neuroscientists Jim Fallon explaining the causal link between a gene (MAOA) carried on the X chromosome (as to be more expressed in males), regulates seratonin production, and when accompanied by environmental trauma/stress results in orbitofrontal brain damage and p...

Re: Celibacy

Has anyone come closer to God through celibacy? Is this a suggested path to genius? What do people think of doing so? God provided sexuality in physical form in this dimensional paradigm so that souls, in a human manifestation, can experience some of God's creative power in a controlled environment...

Re: Celibacy

Still, I do think there is some value in abstinence not just from sex, but from many different things fueled by delusion. It can help clear one's mind in order to focus on other more important things, and lay the ground work in preparation for a life more suited to the philosophical path. Thanks fo...

How many people here deliberately forego sexual intercourse for a love of the Absolute? What about masturbation, do you include this in "sexual intercourse", Syz? Sexual intercourse refers to......sexual intercourse. In my initial post, I was referring to celibacy in general, which depend...

Re: Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment

I find it humbling to see the underlying workings of evolution beyond what is commonly appreciated. For example, personality typing shows that we have visionary, idealist types, who have a natural aptitude which takes them into the arts realms. Since these individuals are naturally focused on evolvi...

Re: Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment

In the future, man will be able to instantaneously publish giant monolithic blocks of text without saying much of anything. Whoa, the future is now. I think it goes over your head, Carl, but there is such a thing as multiplicity of purpose in writing and in communication. Also, humor and irony have...

Re: Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment

Besides the fact that the percentages of all categories add up to 111.2% of all adults, I don't find the premise particularly convincing or useful. Nor am I impressed with Hawken's model, by the way, or with Hawken himself. Perhaps you would find another perspective interesting, along similar lines...

Re: Celibacy

sexual experiences, for men, are mostly done for reasons of power and control, and for a release of aggressive emotions. And that is why there is quite a bit of danger as far as addiction, attachment and the mistreatment of women are concerned. Women end up putting up with a man's mistreatment in t...

Re: Celibacy

So, moral and ethical systems come into play and they are not merely 'invented', they reflect some level of 'truth' or in any case truth- claims . Although I see some 'high' spiritual perspectives, I know the truth of the reality before us, and of this level of 'truth' you talk of. From a Christian...

Re: Celibacy

At the same time, healthy sexual expression that is not based on exploitation can absolutely be an act of an enlightened being, in my understanding. It is interesting that one of the problems is that, until recently, sexual intercourse between men and women (unless you went the route recommended by...

Old discussion on chastity http://theabsolute.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4852 Thanks Animus. I find it interesting that more are not claiming celibacy on this board. Especially given that according to Otto Weininger, apparently, part of the "masculine" path is to forego sexuality ...

Re: Celibacy

Some would say that if one is awakened to their true nature, they would automatically be compassionate, and by such token would be unable to use hardcore pornography, given it is of a world that is dark and exploitative of one's fellow humans. Awakening to reality has nothing to do with morals. Mor...

Re: Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment

So you're saying there is a general awakening underway (in the wake of the death of the "world ego")? The charting of human developmental phases show us how such processes play out. I would like to see such charting. It's the study of developmental psychology. an example: http://noaimiloa...

Re: Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment

Many claim we are waking up now. The evidence seems to point otherwise. It's all part and parcel of the death throes of the world ego. It's not pretty, my friend. So you're saying there is a general awakening underway (in the wake of the death of the "world ego")? The charting of human de...

Re: Celibacy

Hey. As it is in this moment, I usually put much more attention to God (The Father) than to sexual desires. But then again, tomorrow I might participate in a hardcore porno movie - you never know. And of course, only inferior beings would regard hardcore porn as somehow less spiritual than sitting ...

Re: "Ten Challanges of a Liberated Woman"

Suit yourself. Learn through learning, then. Is the redundancy of that statement intentional? The point is when we are out of synch with what is, we must either learn, which includes a process, or we must accept the consequences which are anti-life (which may include learning the "hard way&quo...

Re: "Ten Challanges of a Liberated Woman"

The good news is that when we integrate thought, emotion and intuition, we end up managing their shadow aspects. This means the shadow aspects, by being accepted into the light of day, are no longer shadow aspects. It is in the shadow, where we stuff all that exists that we opt not to look at (deny)...

Re: "Ten Challanges of a Liberated Woman"

I'm not speaking to the masculine in the context of this forum. I was speaking to the masculine in terms of the opposing forces in nature, as per the yin-yang symbol, in the context of the previously linked yin-yang Wikipedia article. What I was commenting on was merely your statement: "It is ...
