how does one unmistake?

when it is claimed that one 'believes' in god for example, my question is ,'how is it done?' what occurs? is there a process i'm missing totally ? My guess is that there is only the claim to the ability and the authenticity of the self claiming. . Last time i checked description was not truths paint...
