Re: What is the purpose of life?
Consciousness does preclude purpose, but that purpose doesn't have to be known. I guess what's funny about all this is that my purpose is to discover my purpose. I guess my search is done and my purpose now becomes to choose my purpose.

Re: What is the purpose of life?
That is true for 1/7th of it, the part you are aware of. But the other 7/8ths is what now has the say. So are you saying that I'm not aware of my purpose because I am not fully aware of myself? And in terms of purpose as a manifestation of consciousness, it exists by default if consciousness exists...

Re: God???
A=A is simply a tool. It is, as quite a few of you have said, an assumption. In daily life it is extremely practical. I would not want to sit in my chair if there were a chance that my chair was not a chair. As Robert said, A=A is simply a Law of Logic. How could you reasonably define the relationsh...

Re: Thought
The statement is not talking about an individual's experience having complete clarity immediately, but word clarity from the speaker to the hearer in exactness of the experience of the speaker who is recalling it from the only moment he has ever live in in awareness to experiencing the event. Ah. I...

Re: Thought
Words therefore are useless in the sense they cannot paint a clear vision of that which was not made clear at the time of occurrence. If every one of your experiences had complete clarity immediately following the event then truly you are a god among men. What if you went through an experience igno...

Re: How software performs functions through hardware...
I think a little clarification needs to be done here in order to specify exactly how a computer works. I'll give (to my understanding) as basic a walk through on the way a computer could produce the answer to the question 2+2. First, what you must realize, is that a computer does no storage nor does...

Re: Thought
On a completely unrelated note (which can be taken to a separate thread if a conversation arises) why should I never give power to something that another believes to be the source of their strength?

Einstein MUST have noticed this!
Einsteins train though experiment neither proves nor disproves the theory of relativity. It isn't some glorious thought experiment. Its damn common sense! Think about it. I'm 17 and its not hard to notice. Forget for a moment that its light were looking at. Think of it as dogs. They are both running...

Are you sure you are being entirely honest with yourself there kid? I'm sure I'm being honest. The motivation behind coming here is that I want to develop...beliefs. Thats the stage I'm in right now. I've grown up in one of those families that believes in not instilling any specific belief in their...

Okay Zach, are you thinking objectively before, during or after the moods and romantic feelings ;? Throughout the whole of every situation I have a part of me that processes and learns and takes note without emotion. It's rather strange to sometimes dip my thinking into an emotionless pit of data b...

Yeesh...as far as the rules I live by...(thats a hard one)...I would probably say that I don't truly live by one set of rules. Maybe the rules that I see will bring me happiness and comfort. Re: Heres a challenge
There's no such thing as a clean slate, you come here shaped and formed by definition. Know yourself! Be honest about motives! Boredom? Perhaps start with listing what it is you do know or think about. The rules you've ended up living by so far, if nothing else. Why would you bother with them? Perh...

What makes us special?
What makes humans any different from any other system? We respond to stimuli based on cause and effect. There is the occasional mix up that we can't find the reason behind, but it's always there. I don't see how theres anything different between me and the tectonic plate movement system besides comp...

I'm a kid who knows absolutely nothing about enlightenment or genius or any of that stuff. I do consider myself to be intelligent though, so teach me. I'm a clean slate. An uncarved sculpture. Lets see what you guys can make of me.

I'v been thinking about it, and now it seems to me like time is just another line on a graph. It honestly makes sense that way. a point, width+height+depth, duration. What would come next?

Re: A new group
I just think that feminine should be described as "not masculine" so anyone who wasn't considered masculine was justput there. I think maybe there should be another way of talking about normal people who don't care about any of these matters and just want to get through life with as little...

Re: The idea of demensions proves Descartes wrong.
Time passes exactly the same for every being, and has observable rules, so how is it simply an artifact of consciousness? I think a maybe an explanation on that would help me to understand. I think that time is a physical dimension. Your saying exactly what a one dimensional man would say as soon as...

Re: A new group
I was making it simpler than it actually is. I saw femininity and masculinity as simply a persons actions. But if they are expressed in terms of motives, than you can't prove that someone is feminine based only on their actions, no matter how much a seemingly lazy person seems feminine. I still coul...

Re: The idea of demensions proves Descartes wrong.
Unfortunately, I can't picture that, simply because time seems like such a different dimension than any of the others to me. I could almost imagine another physical dimension, but time is so differently envisioned for me.

Re: A new group
That makes alot of sence. I'm going to think alot about that. I just don't think we can immediately say that feminine and any of the attributes I listed are automatically linked. Or even that woman and feminine are linked in any way. He assumed that because many women acted in that fasion, that it w...

Re: The idea of demensions proves Descartes wrong.
Then our God might just be a 5th dimensional being, trying to be nice. After all, he would be able to know exactly what is going to happen next in time, the 4th dimension. He could do whatever he liked with us. Alas this conversation is getting very strange. But how could one who isn't constricted b...

Re: The idea of demensions proves Descartes wrong.
Well, perhaps what makes the particles jump is on the 5th dimension, and it impossible for us to know anything about it except for it's affect on our 4 dimensions. But you get my point, of not being able to know. For a religious man, this could almost prove the existence of a god.
