Free Will/Determinism

Probably done a million times here... let's make it 1 million and 1. :) I could be wrong but, with all of the talk about causality, I would assume the prevailing belief here would be determinism? I never gave it much thought until several years ago. I guess I was aware of determinism and the possibi...

Re: Don't Criticize if you Have no Solution

I considered it a fallacy because I consider a fallacy to be when one purports to have won a debate without actually proving the other person wrong, and that is how this is mostly used. It is used as a method of saying, "You are wrong because you have provided no solution." Which is absurd...

Don't Criticize if you Have no Solution

I see this used so often to stifle dissent. That any criticism one provides that does not also include a solution is thereby rendered invalid. Would you consider this to be a type of logical fallacy? Certainly one could be an expert at observation and/or critique without having any ability to be an ...

Re: Employment is unethical

The next question is: How do you plan to buy food, shelter and utilities? If you say they should just be given to you, then you are condemning another to a double dose of the fate that you wish to escape. Someone will have to work twice as hard to provide for you. Why shouldn't it be you (what if it...

Re: LSD and group mind experiences.

Here's something I wrote years ago about this subject, if it's any help at all. "The last time that I took acid (next to last actually, the last time it didn't work) was with my brother. It lasted about 13 hours! Well, it was our first 'bad trip'. My theory as to why it went 'bad' was that we d...

Re: How can women be sexually appealing...

David, This will be the challenge for women in the future. Being composed of imperfect technology themselves, they will have to compete with superior forms of technology. They may well lose out. You just don't get it, do you? Still think women have something to lose? Why would we need men when we h...

I'm guilty of thinking of the same joke as Trevor. :) But i'm aware of the value of maths even though i'm horrible at them. My brother is currently taking Trigonometry (having a tough time with it) for Architectural Engineering. I recently mentioned to him how much significance I see in maths and ho...
